Fingerprints of Style: J.S. Bach with Steve Goss!

Last summer Steve Goss gave us all a fascinating insight into the music of Astor Piazzolla. His occasional ‘Fingerprints of style’ series is back with a close look at the music of J.S. Bach. He will be looking at a two iconic works in order to show us how Bach put his music together - how he planned and structured his pieces - and how he incorporated a wide range of influences into his music. He will be looking at the Goldberg Variations and the Chaconne.

Are there any other composers you’d like Steve to talk about? Please send in your suggestions.

I would love to hear Steve's analysis of Debussy and/or Takemitsu.

  • To Martin and Steve,

This was an excellent Webinar you engineered and Steve presented .

I think this one deserves to be in the running for tops in tonebase Webinars. It would be fun if the directors at tonebase had a year end awards presentation of best for guitar, piano and violin voted by tonebase academy and subscribers.

I have been a student of JS BACH’S Art of Fugue, Musical Offering and Goldberg Variations which are works of genius and inspiration.

It was a pleasure to hear Steve’s presentation and sincere appreciation of

The Goldberg. Martin, your interaction and hands on directing made the production flow smooth and engaging.

A request I have is when will Steve’s outline notes be available?

He mentioned they will be posted.

I found two recordings by Schiff 1983 and a live 2003 (dates).

It may be of interest to listen and compare after 20 years.

Martin, you would probably appreciate the audio difference

    Looking forward to Steve’s outline.

Good health and happiness to you both.

    Sincerely, Michael

Michael Carlson Dear Michael! So sorry for the late reply, here is Steve's outline! And thank you for your kind words, I always enjoy talking to Steve!

    • martin Thank you as I was confident you would post when able to. Don’t feel bad as I am just getting to 2008. I didn’t have time due to work and coincidentally found this in my stored library. It has more significance now for me. Looking forward to your next session.
