Nora's practice diary "Recuerdos de la Alhambra"

Hi Martin (and Emma, Blaise, etc I already know some of you guys !),

I am struggling with recuerdos and Tremolo since March 21, and this is a great challenge and opportunity which I want to join. I usually get a little lost with all the activities.. somewhere I read , but I donot find it yet, that the 2.11? will be the start of this project? if it is like that, I will be able to join you this time 😁.

But...a concert??? when will be the date ???? I am very slow by learning....unfortunately. I will try to send today my first personal practice diary , is it in this page oder? With Recuerdos de la Alhambra also. And I will try the point of relaxation after each stroke . I am also practicing the preparation of the following stroke, what Rafael also explained.

Sooo see you later !

Hasta luego

Nora

Nora Torres-Nagel That was great. You have made a lot of improvement. I have made several attempts to play this over the years but never managed to get it under control. Your diligence and dedication is paying off. I should take note. Thanks for sharing your progress.

Nora Torres-Nagel I love your dedication!!! "It's not working okay, but I need to record that", that made my day! 💃🥳🚀 Beautiful to hear your "Leona" and especially your comments! 🦁

  • Hi all ! yesterday I have recorded this. I should take more time to hear the last version for comparing better, but I think it is better, what already is a good new. The thumb is more clear and balanced, I hear less "nails" of both hands and my "ami" is not galloping...isn't It ? I am still experimenting with the position of the RH. Clearly for me , the melody is too low... I need more volumen in those fingers, and consistency is also failing. The beginning still is a pain in the neck...I need like 20 bars to find a confortable position of the RH🙄.

    Still a lot to do!

Se you all later this afternoon.

  • I have to write all again....for some reason ...anyway...two recording with a day of difference ans some exercises....interesting for me to compare. I feel that something is improving, may be I ano not hearing it...but something is changing in the gut direction💪

Nora Torres-Nagel This was very good Nora. Your improvement is amazing. Your ability to sustain the tremolo for the entire piece is impressive as well. Your persistence is an inspiration.

Nora Torres-Nagel Dear Nora, practicing tremolo is fun and takes so much patience.... I don't understand how John Williams can play the whole Recuerdos in tempo 160 to 180bpm while also making great music .... Best Regards

    • Olli thanks for your words Olli....160-180 !!!!! my god ...those guys...like that recording of Yepes playing "El abejorro" incredible quick...even playing it with 3 fingers as he did...." es gibt nicht..."

  • I post today the video of the 26th. I am feeling more confortable with this special arpegio, feeling each finger. The consistency is not good enough, the balance of thumb and ami is better, I hear or louder the melody as before. Alot betther is the rythm😄, my "galopeando " is dissapearing and the ebst is that I realize when it comes and how to correct ir , what already is a success (a modest one) I am learning how to do a rest thumb in some bars or when I would like to accentuate the armony, Pepe Romero and my teacher Leonardo do that and it sounds gorgeous but it is necessary to have an absolute independence in the RH between p and ami (the flamenco players dominate this very well!!!). This needs time and patience....

Nora Torres-Nagel wow, your speed is quite good already and you are playing it so well! The ornaments sound clear and crisp and the tremolo is coming along!!!! It is so hard to never loose that constant galloping in a uniform way!!! But yours is coming!!! Your melody in the base is carried in a very sweet and beautiful way . I have to show in the diary  my etude  on tremolo! And then recuerdos? It is a beautiful piece and you have it already !!!! Congratulations!!!!!

Well done  Nora you are doing a good job. Calmly I'm also studying tremolo, and Recuerdo in particular. This for me is "the" speed of the song, at least I want to play it like this. My opinion is that to bring out the song you have to play more softly with the thumb (which on its own puts more strength than the other fingers) and not louder with ami.

Nora Torres-Nagel This is great Nora. Your tremolo is very consistent, no easy feat especially considering how long and relentless the tremolo is. The piece never lets you rest. Great job.

    • ivan paolo absolutely right Ivan , I still hear the thumbs to loud, I would like to have a clear, brillant melody....let`s work on it . But the ami should be also a little louder I think , more power...like a singer singing that with full pulmons ! Like Daniel Aguirre or Ana Vidovic tremolo💪

    • Emma thank you Emma!  it is coming alone yeeeessssss, 😉I feel it better also. I am doing a lot of training for the rigth hand with arpegios ( I love arpegios in general anyway) , where I am feeling and thinking in each finger, when he is playing....that was a phrase of Daniel Aguirre and it is important to focus the brain in what each finger is doing...and it is worth also and effective. I will look right now at your tremolo exercises diary Emma

    • ivan paolo you are rigth Ivan and because my ami are not consistent...but it is not a matter of more volumen in ami probably....

  • I have a new recording of my Recuerdos....I begin to feel the "singing" and I am trying to incorporate it in my performance. I did the course of Boryung for El ultimo tremolo and with her I begin to understand how to sing with the tremolo....let's try....
