  • Be sure not to in any way perpetuate the myth of an Islamic golden age in the Iberian peninsula. This myth has been debunked. See this book: The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise: Muslims, Christians, and Jews under Islamic Rule in Medieval Spain, by Dario Fernandez-Morera

Jeremiah Alphonsus I'm not sure what relevance this has to the topic. In any event, the book does not 'debunk' so much as present a point of view that is quite divergent from that of other scholars. Those interested in a different perspective might want to read S. J. Pearce's critical review:

Moderator action: book cover photo removed due to excessive size. Feel free to repost at a more reasonable resolution.

More importantly, our tonebase Live instructors have the right to perpetuate any beliefs they wish in their shows. We are certainly not going to dictate what ideas they discuss in their livestreams, whether musical, historical, or otherwise. We reserve the right to remove offensive content, but do not believe there are any grounds for intervening in the context of the present livestream.

  • I added the words “in any way” precisely to foreclose the possibility, however remote, that you might try in some way, however small, to promote the myth of an Islamic golden age in Spain. The paper you link to is garbage.

Jeremiah Alphonsus As mentioned, our live hosts can express their ideas freely in the live events. I ask you to keep the discussions in the forum on the topic, constructive and open and not label other users' contributions as "garbage", even if you disagree with them.

  • Great session!   I missed the original broadcast.   It is great on catch-up.   This spurs me to learn more about Cuban technique and music.   Look forward to a follow up, or some lesson from Susana.
