  • Dec. 13, 2024 - Beat, Adrian Belew, Steve Vai, Tony Levin and Danny Carey performing 1980s King Crimson; Oklahoma City. Incredible show. Too loud for my aging ears, thank God for earplugs. Worth the decibels to see and hear Tony Levin. Vai was a gas too.

Randy Wimer, All of my friends who went said it was a great concert. I couldn't bring myself to go because I find Vai a bit over the top ... especially when compared to Fripp. But who knows if Fripp will ever perform again after his heart attack?

The last guitar concert I attended (2017) was Six Hands - John Williams, John Etheridge and Gary Ryan. It was in an intimate setting in Surrey University and was introduced by Steve Goss. Needless to say it was incredible and included solos, duos and trios.

Ron John Etheridge from Soft Machine! The group that "fathered" the Canterbury Scene.

Last evening, Quartet Ebène at Maison de la Radio et de la Musique in Paris, where they are in residence this year. Out of this world performance (IMHO) of Beethoven's 1st String Quartet and Tchaïkovsky's 3rd String Quartet. As with any of the top string quartets, their playing was so gloriously intertwined: they play as if they're one living being, not four individuals! So much to enjoy but also so much to learn in terms of musical expression.
