Srinath Subrahmanyan Hi Srinath! We currently don't have the capacity to run guest streams optimized for the South Asian timezones. However we will start to have weekly tonebase community Q&As and Office Hours right here in the forums!

  • Looking forward to this workshop. Alfredo was Carlevaro's longtime assistant and a great student of Carlevaro's School of Guitar.

Gary Hi Gary, that seems to be Australian Central Day Time!  You can specify the timezone that is displayed in the forums when you go to "Edit Profile" -> "Account".

Here you should be able to set your time zone!

Dale Needles , it was amazing!! Maybe you have met my teacher, Eduardo Castañera, Carlevaro's student. I studied with him between 1983 and 1985. What about starting a group here in Tonebase, to study Carlevaro's technique?!?!?!

    • Moyses Lopes Yes, I agree.  As for meeting your teacher, I do not recall.  I was studying with Carlevaro in Montevideo between 1980 to 1983 during which time I met Alfredo.  In any case, starting a Tonebase group to study Carlevaro would be great.  I would hope that  Blaise Laflamme would also be interested as well as many others who were in attendance today.  martin is that something that would be possible?

On another note, it was quite sad to hear about Sergio Abreu's death.  As I posted in the Chat, I was fortunate to meet him in 1980 in Rio on my first trip to Montevideo.  He had just started making guitars and moving away from performing.  It was quite the experience to spend a few minutes with him in his workshop.

    • Dale Needles Yes for sure this is something I would be interested in... back to the roots! I'm also sad by the news about Sergio Abreu. Moyses Lopes I was also enough fortunate to study with Carlevaro's student Alvaro Pierri during my Bachelor degree, but I never met Carlevaro himself 😞. Lets bring back those study books 💪

    • Blaise Laflamme You are so lucky to have studied with Alvaro. Pierri used to teach at McGill University in Montreal. He has quite a few Friederich guitars. I was responsible for Alvaro Pierri’s San Francisco debut with Omni Foundation years ago. By then, he has moved to Vienna.

    • Bill Young thank you Bill, I also consider myself more than lucky. By the time he was also teaching at UQAM and this is where I went for 5 years with him, he definitely shaped how I play music. I know he has moved to Vienna in the last decade. I'm happy you have met him and contributed to make him better known, he deserves more exposure with what he has to offer IMHO.

Dale Needles  and Blaise Laflamme About Sérgio Abreu, sure he will be missed, he was a great artist and luthier, with a huge passion for the guitar. Good to read that the idea had eco. Will be a pleasure to hear your ideas about Carlevaro. For now, waiting for martin   to know about the viability.

    • Dale Needles I'd be interested in a group because the volume of material he has out is a little overwhelming. Getting some insight on how to approach it would really be helpful.

Steve Price Moyses Lopes Blaise Laflamme Dale Needles I can create Group Thread that is dedicated to Carlevaro Technique, what name should it be?

      Like
    • martin hmmm... good question... since Dale asked for it I think he could provide the name he was envisioning for the topic? Or something like «Carlevaro's School of Guitar» or «Carlevaro's School of Guitar Discussion» ?

    • Blaise Laflamme martin Moyses Lopes Steve Price  To give credit where it is due, Moyes actually suggested this great idea.  In any case, I like Blaise's suggestion to call it simply Carlevaro's "School of Guitar" Discussion Group.  We could include in the intro to the Group Thread that "this is for anyone interested in joining an online discussion on Abel Carlevaro's School of Guitar and that in addition to the online discussion, video postings of his technical exercises, studies and/or compositions are encouraged,"

Dale Needles martin Steve Price Blaise Laflamme , «Carlevaro's School of Guitar Discussion» is a great name! Will be a pleasure to be with you (and anyone interested, of course) in this group!

    • Dale Needles Moyses Lopes Steve Price martin oups... sorry Moyses I thought it was Dale idea, then lets the final choice be yours if all agree!! If Martin is ok with the idea of having a group that'd be great to have it like a forum section, like challenges, where we or Martin, on our request, can create topic threads to have better organization, like having general discussion, video performance, technical exercise, ...

    • Blaise Laflamme martin Moyses Lopes Steve Price I like the idea of having the discussion group be in threads, and as a suggestion,  maybe the first thread could run through February and be on the Cuadernos and then March be on his Studies and April on Carlevaro the composer. Other suggestions?  In any case, let's try to agree on the first thread so Martin can set it up.  We can decide on future threads later.  Also, I am completely open to whatever the group would like.

    • Dale Needles martin Moyses Lopes Steve Price Me too I'm open to any suggesrtions, one benefit of having generic threads like video, technique, ... makes it easier to follow up on a specific topic in any given point in time. lets have a General Discussion-like thread to start with and discuss how we want it to be organized?

    • Blaise Laflamme martin Moyses Lopes Steve Price General Discussion as the first thread sounds good to me.

    • Moyses Lopes Dale Needles Steve Price martin Also since the activity summaries don't include the section / master thread I think that'd be a good idea to prefix the inner threads with «Carlevaro» as it'll be easier to catch up or not. Like the master thread (section) name «Carlevaro's School of Guitar Discussion Group» or shorter as «Carlevaro's School of Guitar Group» and the inner threads like «Carlevaro - General Discussion» ?

      Like
    • Blaise Laflamme martin Moyses Lopes Steve Price I agree with Blaise, so I imagine that in the Forum section we would list our group under the "General Discussions" section.  Then under that section, our group would be listed as "Carlevaro's School of Guitar Group".  And, then a subheading under that would be the thread that we are focusing on. For example, the first thread would be "Carlevaro - General Discussion". If that is fine with everyone, that I recommend that we give the green light to Martin to set this up.
