Paganini on the Classical Guitar

As suggested by Nick in the Livestream Megathread.

how about a live stream about Paganini? Guitar sonatas / caprices... I know Eliot Fisk recorded them and they are stunning readings ... maybe he would like to be involved??

I was going to suggest this also. When you search Tonebase by composer, Paganini is conspicuously absent. I think Paganini's Grand Sonata is an especially noteworthy work. It would be great if Tonebase produced its own solo version of this piece. For some reason I still have a hard time finding a good version of this piece.

Kevin I have never played music by Paganini, but I've recorded one Capriccio #5 to rule them all with our very own Mircea , maybe we can get him in the near future to talk about that. Or should I invite him as a guest? 馃

Martin I think inviting Mircea as a guest is a terrific idea!

Martin Kevin why not! 馃 I have some experience playing some of Paganini's music. I could make this the topic of my first October stream!

Separately (and this has nothing to do with our live schedule), I have a super-secret call tomorrow with someone who's... let's say, a very influential champion of Paganini's music on the guitar, and we're trying to get him on board to record a lesson for us next spring. I can't promise anything at this stage, but we might have some prerecorded material on Paganini's music in the middle of next year!

Mircea That would be awesome! As for the recorded lesson, if my guess as to whom the "influential champion of Paganini's music on the guitar" is correct (I won't say what my guess is since your call is super-secret!) that would be awesome too!
