In his Tonebase right hand technique lesson, Thomas talks about the right hand middle joint being the primary driving force for plucking. Can you ask him to elaborate/demonstrate this technique and discuss how he came to the conclusion given many teachers describe the large joint as the primary driving force? (I tend to agree that there is too much emphasis on the large joint)

Mircea Yes, thanks for asking my question and I appreciate his answer. I knew when he mentioned it was a polarizing topic, he was going to give a reply that was careful not to offend, which I understand. I was hoping he would talk more about how he personally came to his unusual technique given there is so much pressure to play from the large joint. Luckily someone else asked a question that got him to talk about that a little. It seems that his teacher was having him play in a hand position that was more like Ida Presti, and he just discovered his hand position on his own because it felt better for him.  To me, the most interesting thing about his technique that can be clearly seen when he demonstrated arpeggios/tremolo is how he extends the MCP when he releases the string. This is the very thing teachers say will produce a bad sound, but it's not true, what produces the bad sound is hooking the string. If the nail glides smoothly along the string while extending, a good tone is possible. -- as he clearly demonstrated.
