    Isolating practice on the major melody runs in the piece.  Trying to play them evenly and relaxed not rushed.

    I finger it this way and try to hear and group them into notes of 4

    Keeping the the a-m-i rolls on the high E in tempo is a stumbling block at this time.

    My a finger is too slow.

      Brooke I've looked at this scale quite a few times (without having played the complete piece) and I find always new solutions and approaches, let me share with you my newest one, where I make heavy use of preparation and planting and simply avoid the ima-stumbling block!

      Hi Martin,

       

      I took your suggestion I think it will definitely be more stable.  Just a few minor changes though:

      1.  Why not have the thumb push through the D string* rather than use the i finger and then reset the thumb for the open G string?   Updated fingering the phrase as denoted in RED

      Brooke Because then I would need to keep pushing until the 3rd string, and I simply am not so light with the touch of my thumb, haha! 🧙‍♂️ That's the reason why I unreasonably struggle with pieces like the Villa-Lobos Etude #2 (apart from the obvious challenges this piece offers), it sounds too clumsy and heavy!

    11/8/21 Update

    Practicing with the new fingerings and shifts for this upward scale run.  It is definitely more efficient than my initial approach (Thanks Martin for the recommended approach).

    I'm starting to articulate the line more evenly and securely and my fingers are starting to do some thinking for me.   

     

    Now, I am also trying to build up more stability in the other difficult runs in this piece and linking all the parts up musically.  It's a fun and challenging piece to try and tackle.

      Brooke 11/19 Update

       

      I am seeing a lot of variability listening to different versions of this song to make it work for that player.   I have already deviated from the page a few times to make it work for me.

      Now I will try to put the pieces together more seamlessly and find a medium tempo I can play through.

    • Brooke guauuu your left hand has a lot of energy and sounds and looks very sure. I have not hear versions of other guitarrists. But, if you allow me a very personal opinion...I would put a litte more of melancolic carakter there, I will hear it in youtube ..I know this music only on a Violin version  heard in one concert once, in the program was writing "Piazzolla" a little confusion of composers!!!!

      Thanks,  I still have a lot of decisions to make on how to play the song.  Just trying to get the notes under my fingers at a reasonable tempo first.

    • Brooke you have the notes1 incredible your power!!!  I will hear it anyway by other guitarrists...I am too involve with the melancholy of the classic argentine tango...the tango of Piazzolla (or modern tango in general ) has also another character , sometimes, more apassionated and other stronger sentiments.

      I am so glad to be in a group of so interesting and appasionated  guitarrists!!!

      Brooke Wow! That was very good. That is quite a challenge and you have a good grasp of it. I think that is the first time I have actually heard that piece, though I have been aware of it for some time.
