  • While walking my dog tonight, I decided to listen to a bunch of versions of Pavana on YouTube. So when I got home, I practiced it for about 30 minutes and thought, "Why not record it?" So here it is! I always liked this piece, but the B major key signature in the B section always kept me flipping past it in my book.

What was easy: It was not as hard as I thought it might be. The many glissandos may turn people off, but I think they're fun to play and I find them very expressive. They certainly scream out TARREGA!

What was difficult: The 3rd beat of measure 10 is a pretty difficult stretch, and certainly needs more work for me to get it. Any advice about making that stretch easier?

    • Jaime Zaldua Yeah, I think I might make this one a permanent piece for me. Thanks so much for all of your encouraging feedback!

It's enjoyable to have all this Tarrega material in one pdf. I've got Tarrega sheet music scattered all over, so this single doc format is great and very convenient. I'm still working on Estudio en forma de Minuetto. It's one I had not played previously, and I hope to share a recording of it later this week. I also like to practice Etude in E Minor. I have played Recuerdos de la Alhambra previously, but I'm rusty with the tremelo. I would like to dig up some tremelo exercises and tackle Recuerdos once again. Any suggestions for tremelo exercises?

Neil Thompson I am not a tremolo guy, but we do have some very cool Tremolo instructions here on tonebase!

  • Greetings Martin and Tonebase community.

This week I have continued to work on ‘Tango’.

Thankyou everyone for encouraging comments last week it was a new and daunting experience posting a performance of a piece I had only  just started - I appreciate the positive feedback.

Matin your recommendation to watch your ‘Right hand balance’ livestream was ingenious. Its urged me to change up my RH fingerings - my ear has changed! I have found it so useful thanks sooo much.

Also I’d like to thank Mircea because I heard his voice during a deep practice session - he said “Jaime make life easy for yourself and prepare your P finger on the 4th string after each 1st beat life was never meant to be hard man!’’.

Man you guys are like Sages.

Easy: Finding things to work on.

Hard: Applying new concepts ‘Balancing chords’ and ‘Preparation’

Thanks for the inspirational posts everyone.

    One love

    Jaime

A big thanks for all your videos, seeing the work in progress, and how things are being experimented differently on the same pieces is a great discovery for me. Lots of admiration to you folks for your talent!

Hello everyone! I haven´t seen your updates from week 2, but I congratulate in advance, you must be doing pretty great 👍

So, last week I was quite busy as well and it's already over, but I publish my update here since my practice work took place these last days, and I was trying to upload my video yesterday but my computer didn't cooperate too much 😞. I worked on Capricho Arabe like I said, I saw Tariq Harb's lesson for tonebase, and I like it very much! However, I still need to work on more aspects like lowering the volume of the accompaniment to stand out the melody, getting the scales a bit faster, not having my right hand to jump around, and more details I need to internalize. I watched as well William Kanengiser livestream about Biomechanics and it really blew my mind 🤯 really recommend it!  Well, I hope I can make an update soon on week 3 of this piece with some improvement!

    • One thing you found easy: Mostly, I think doing the accents on the melody, I do them with rest stroke.
    • One thing you found difficult: Lots of things, but perhaps the most difficult one  for me is playing the piece completely and with no errors or with all the details right.

Daniel Great!!! Don't worry, this piece needs to grow, and I am sure it will! I love the temper that you have in the main section, great submission!

Jaime Zaldua thank you! William Kanengiser class about Biomechanics has helped me to achieve a better position for the left hand, which is great for the ornaments.
