  • Already towards the end of week 2! I have enjoyed so many great submissions from you guys. Really, beautiful music, for my short moments of relaxation. Now, finally, time for my first tecording.  Terrible 2 weeks. My nails and fingers are not yet back to normal.

I dare to post this one, while my m nail is damaged, might brake soon. I'll try to save it. I revised endecha and oremus. Played them before.

Technically not difficult but it's all about phrasing and tone. Unfortunately my tone is not optimal., these days. But this is the best I could get for now. I hope to receive my new mics next week,  for better recordings.

    • joosje It’s always a joy to hear you play, Joosje! I’m sure that all you can hear is the notes that don’t sound right because of the bad nail, but I hear beautiful phrasing and a real connection to the music. Tarrega’s beautiful voice comes through loud and clear!

joosje Very nice, especially the phrasing and the tone colour - shifts are extraordinary and tasteful. Thanks a lot for sharing, Joosje!

    • joosje great take on those pieces Joosje! I like the intimate way you play them. I was myself looking at read through them too, so hard to find enough time these days :(

joosje That was beautiful.  The sound is good and I didn't notice any nail issues.  Your dyanmics and phrasing are wonderful.  I am inspired to try these myself.

joosje Thank you so much, glad you finally found time to submit your wonderful performance! Although I have never explored this piece to its fullest, it's one of my favourite pieces as the Tárrega captured the essence of the guitar's sonority in such a limited space of just a few bars! Thank you, you captured that wonderfully!

    • Olalla you know, old guitarists’ trick: if you’re not 100% secure, mumble something about your nails….😄

joosje Dear Joosje, as always - the music comes from your heart ❤️. Don't care about some damaged nails ! It sounds beautiful - out of the guitar - directly into my soul ! I don't want to ask what happened to your healthy in the past, but I really hope you are on the way to recovery 🏋️‍♂️.

      Best Regards Olli

Hope your move went well!  ( I hate moving...).  This sounds beautiful, and really like your phrasing and dynamics. Please nurse your fingers and nails so you feel comfortable and  we can continue to enjoy your wonderful playing!!

  • While walking my dog tonight, I decided to listen to a bunch of versions of Pavana on YouTube. So when I got home, I practiced it for about 30 minutes and thought, "Why not record it?" So here it is! I always liked this piece, but the B major key signature in the B section always kept me flipping past it in my book.

What was easy: It was not as hard as I thought it might be. The many glissandos may turn people off, but I think they're fun to play and I find them very expressive. They certainly scream out TARREGA!

What was difficult: The 3rd beat of measure 10 is a pretty difficult stretch, and certainly needs more work for me to get it. Any advice about making that stretch easier?

Eric Phillips Wonderful Eric, I like your version very much (tone, dynamics, ... everything!). Your dog seems to bring good and helpful inspiration to you😉, so does our dog ... again, I think we both are living very similar lives 🙂

Eric Phillips Great! I'll probably go over that piece in today's workshop "Establish First Contact- Learning a New Piece" since I have never played that piece, but it sounds so lovely, I can look at the stretch (but I won't do that before the live stream, that would be cheating, haha)

    • Martin Thank you, Martin. I actually found two solutions to make it easier, both of which are very viable and, in my opinion, do not detract from the piece at all. I'm planning to watch the livestream today, so I'll see what you come up with!
