    Dear fellow members,

here is my try on the week two update.

After Adelita and Lagrima I tried working on Marieta Mazurka and Pavana .... although "the journey is not over yet for me and these pieces", I thought I should post the "status quo"😉 I hope you like them and any advice would be welcome.

Eric Phillips …it really seems that we live an equal life in that concern🙈🤣…and I am very thankful, that you like my recording of Pavana.

    • Thomas that'd be great if you manage to do it! Don't worry too much, my first attempt to recording audio and video was earlier this year in the Sor Challenge and I managed to slowly get better a bit each time. If you have a chance to watch Martin's Recording Course you'll get a lot of awesome tips, for me it was a gold mine!

Week two update. I am off to a very bad start this week practicing my piece. Just a lot of life stuff to take care of. I will have more time to practice this weekend but don’t expect I will make much headway with the lovely but challenging Capricho Arabe.

Debbie No worries Debbie.   Do it at your own pace (with life interruptions) and enjoy the process.  It's a never ending journey for all of us, so let's cherish the time we have with that beautiful poetic guitar sound. and have fun with it!

    • Debbie I second Barney  . If you don't get to it until after the challenge, just post it in a new challenge and we will all still love to hear you play!

  • I decided to move on from Maria Gavota and give Maria Tango a whirl.

What was easy: The re-tuning of two strings always made me avoid playing this piece from my Tarrega book, but it wasn't bad at all. Almost no notes on the re-tuned strings (5th and 6th) were fretted notes. It was such a fun piece to play!

What was difficult: It's very rhythmic, which is not my strength. I was constantly playing the wrong bass notes and messing up the harmonies. The right-hand harmonics in the one measure were hard to pull off in tempo.

Eric Phillips Nice Eric!!  Wow, what  a great job you do playing from score without looking much at the fretboard.  Sounds great, and you must have great nails for that terrific tone on the thirds.

Not familiar with this piece, so what's also great about this Challenge--exposure to pieces we haven't heard before.  I really enjoyed this, thanks!!

    • Barney Thanks, Barney! I had never heard it before either. From what I’ve seen, it may not actually be written by Tarrega. Fun to play, regardless!

    • Blaise Laflamme Thanks, Blaise! Technically it’s definitely in my comfort zone. I just find myself making dumb mistakes and messing up the tempo.

    • Eric Phillips wow, this is so good. I love the way you you play it, with such energy and rhythm. If I may say one thing,  I would expect some more contrast in the repetitions of the theme. But, what a great job, Eric!

    • joosje Thank you, Joosje! I agree 100% about it needing more contrast. I tried for some when it came back to G minor, but as usual, it needs more. I will definitely work on that.

Eric Phillips Great song Eric, great playing too!! You really learn very fast and I hope for you that you can hold that pace🎼👍🏻. Your playing brought that song to my „I have to learn, as soon as I have some time“-list. The only problem is the length of this list🙈…and that I am not very good in reading music🥴

    • Thomas Thanks, Thomas. I am very thankful that my first guitar teacher, who did not teach me classical, did teach me how to read music. I'm glad you like the piece!

Eric Phillips that was super Eric! If you have problems with rhythm it’s really not detected in this piece. You did a great job. Looks and sounds like a fun piece to play.
