7 Ejercicios Previos - Abel Carlevaro
I was planning to practice Abel Carlevaro's Microestudios, but the version I bought came with 7 "Preliminary Exercises". I am a "start with page 1" type of person, so I decided to start with these preliminary exercises first and found out they were quite amazing!
The first 3 exercises are mainly for the thumb, but there are always some interesting movements on the left hand as well. I could really see and feel how the Master incorporated those essential finger movements in the exercises, and practicing them really made me think more about how I move my should, elbow, and wrist than fingers only.

Ejercicios Previos 02
No. 2 has a different rhythmic pattern, but I think the most challenging part is the rest note. Bass notes tend to last longer, so I had to mute them at the start of every bar, that was easier said than done. 😂

Wai Welcome to the world of Carlevaro! I propose you to buy his technical books and the amazing School of guitar book where every concepts are explained in details. Once you start integrating more with extensions and fixations, fingers > wrist > elbow > shoulder, and combined with an appropriate instrument position, you can achieve a lot by using relevant articulations.

Ejercicios Previos no. 1-4 are very similar, no. 1-3 focused on the thumb movement, and no.4 combined both bass and melody movement.

No. 6 started to sound like a real tune, really like this one, and no.7. The combination of basses and melodies in both pieces is very interesting and unique.

Yeah! After following the instruction of Phil Goldenberg's 3min practice method, I could finally play the No.5 reasonably steady. I will dive into the Microestuios next! 🧜♂️
