Week 2 - Arpeggios, Slurs, and the Theme Returns
Week 2 of the Capricho árabe Challenge. Suggested focus this week: Sections 3 and 4 (bars 19–34), the big arpeggio, the slur chain, and the theme coming back around. Still on Section 1? Perfect, that's what these threads are for.
Share whatever your practice threw up this week: a clip, a rough take, a question, a fingering you changed. And leave a kind word or a tip on someone else's take while you're here.
Reminder: we're going live on Monday September 14, 5pm CEST to check in on the challenge and answer your questions. Bring them. Details here
One question for the week: which step of the Track did you replay the most, and why?

Sections 3 and 4 (measures 19-34) Sept 11
I cannot say that I watched any steps of the Track more than any others. I watched the track to check out Martin's fingering choices to see if I want to change any of the ones I have been using.

Good take Eric, It sounds really nice¡¡¡
I´m joining this challenge with some delay , but I take it as a oportunity to work on this piece I tried to learn some years ago ( then it was farm from my reach) and polish it.
Tarrega, as well as other Romantic composers are my favourites, so I hope to complete it on time.
I paste my take on the firs 20 measures. Comments are wellcomed.

Hello all,
Joining a week late as usual, this is such a cool piece. I learned it many years ago and really have not touched it for quite some time. Its a funny thing, when I learned it, I obviously learned it incorrectly, with many mistakes and now after not playing it for years the exact same mistakes I had then I still exist today. There is a lot to be said about all the research being done on how the brain & (neurons) process repetitive tasks. I guess in a nutshell, don't practice mistakes, the brain is to stupid to know the difference between what is right and wrong while your imprinting finger movements. I've learned a lot from this research. I only wish I knew it 40 years ago.
I also think my eyes are much worse. I'm finding it hard to find the targets when doing the slur sections. I'll work on these sections more, and look at suggestions Martin gives on handling these slurs. Look forward to the D minor section

We're live today at 5pm CEST with Capricho Árabe. Bring your questions.
The plan: walk through the piece section by section, shape the opening cadenza, hide the shifts in the chromatic runs, make the harmonics ring, and take a guided tour of the Capricho Árabe Track, step by step.
Post your questions below before 5pm and we'll answer as many as we can, live. The more specific the better: a bar number, a fingering, a passage that keeps fighting back.
