Rene Izquierdo: Workshop and Excerpt Masterclass III (Mar 27th) Questions / Suggestions

By popular demand Rene Izquierdo will be answering your questions from the chat and accept short recorded excerpts AGAIN from you for a unique, tailor-made masterclass experience!

To make this helpful to as many people as possible, we suggest sending in excerpts of single passages, up to 30 seconds in length. This also takes the pressure off of having to perform an entire piece at a time.

PLEASE ADD A SCORE OF YOUR RECORDING AS WELL!

If you do want to send in a full recording, that's fine! Let us know what timestamp (minute & second) you would like us to focus on, so we can pay special attention to those.

In addition, you are most certainly open to send in text questions before the masterclass using this very thread

The format for sending in videos is the same as in all tonebase public masterclasses:

  • Submit right here, by replying to this thread!
  • (Alternatively, send me your video submission at [email protected])
  • You can either attach a video directly from your computer, or paste a link to a YouTube video
  • (If you opt to use a YouTube video, it can be unlisted - no need to make it public!)

Find the start time in your time zone by clicking the photo or following this event link:

  • What questions do you have for him?
  • Any particular area you would like him to focus on?

Forum questions will be answered first!

First we would like to take a look at the videos that have already been submitted for the last excerpt masterclass but didn't discuss as we ran out of time!

Derek  Eric  please let us know if you still wish your  video from last month's workshop to be discussed or if you want to submit something new! 🧙‍♂️

    • martin Yes, absolutely! I would love to hear from Rene about the short video I submitted last month! Here it is again, if that is helpful. I was particularly asking about the trill right before the deceptive cadence in bar 11. I find the fingering really tricky. But I would love to hear any thoughts he has on the piece in general, as I know it is a piece with which he is very familiar. Thanks so much!

  • I have a question for Rene regarding developing picado speed. Does he have any tips for coordination with the left hand? I seem to be able to alternate i and m in the right hand faster than my left hand can keep up so this is limiting the speed at which I can play scales. Thank you!

Jaime Great, thank you for that submission! He is an expert on "reflexive speed", so I am sure Rene will have helpful advice on speed and coordination for you! 🚅

    Hi Martin

    Hers is my alternative video.

It is a simple exercise by Tarrega. I would like Rene to comment on my left hand position, in particular when playing higher than the 12th fret.

Thank you both very much  Derek

So I have a bit smaller hands and while I try certain pieces and practice and warm up, there is one piece and location in particular that I struggle with...bar 37-39 of Leyenda!  Is there an alternate fingering for this perhaps?

    • Chris Hi Chris, maybe Rene will need a sheet so he can quickly know what bar 37-39 you are refering to look like? :)

  • hello i was working Rodrigo's Zapateado according to Rene's guidelines in a master of the tonebase .... I took some notes but the master was retained from the tonebase not and why could I give some tips that were presented in the master namely
    1-fingered from bar 1-8
2- some slurs that Rene proposed to cut at the time
3- Beginning of the part in Mi M (chords)
finally everything that is useful to work the piece
thanks and i look forward to seeing the master again on the tonebase because it was very good and useful

Rene has mentioned Pujol's studio 1 (end of book 2) a few times. I have trouble right in te beginning. End of measure one beginning measure two where the righthand fingering is 1,2,4,3,4. 3 wil not place accurately and 4 lifts not effortlessly. Is at advisable to place 3 and 4 at the same time and not is sequence? Can Rene please gives me pointers to how to practice this piece. You mentioned palm touching nek. What wil improve accuracy and speed? Thank you
