Legend by Ernest Shand

Once again, I stumbled upon Alexandra Whittingham playing this on YT and loved it. It's challenging, but does not feel beyond me. Shand was a student of Catherina Pratten, so it feels natural to go from a piece by her (Forgotten) to this piece by Shand.

The score is attached.

Here is an initial read-through of the piece. My focus will be on making the melody come through very legato, while keeping the accompaniment in the background. The balance in this video is rather poor. There is a good amount of shifting that needs my attention.

It's starting to come together. I'm hoping to have it memorized soon, so I can take my eyes away from the music. That will make the shifting a lot easier.

The B section (measures 9-16) sounds really "flat" when I listen back to it. I will have to find some way to make that more interesting.

Here is today's update. Definitely some improvement. The B section is a bit better, but it slows down too much in the second half of the section due to my lack of memorization. I'm also not too happy with the the inaccuracy of some shifts in C section.

I'm trying to memorize it, but there always seem to be parts that trip me up, so I'm playing it with a mix of memorization and using the score.
