Rosie Bennet: Developing Positive Practice Habits

Practice

Is there a more semantically loaded word in the music industry?

How much should you practice?

What should you be practicing?

How should you be working towards your goals?

Whether you are just starting out or whether you're a seasoned player, developing positive habits around practice is one of the most important steps in developing or consolidating your love and ambition for the instrument. Join Rosie Bennet in this livestream as she outlines some of the common practice pitfalls, discusses the psychology behind why we fall into these traps, and how you can develop a positive practice that leaves you accomplishing more and feeling better.

I can't start to practice if I can't read the music. I'm a beginner and refuse to play via tabs. I need a resource to build from and make progress to playing smoothly. Thanks.

I am relieved to know that advanced guitarists also slow down in practice. It frustrates me when I struggle with passages / techniques which make me really tense up. Relaxation is the key - mentally and physically. I’ll need to be patient and go slow! Which feels like forever

  • Thanks, Rosie and martin . This was a great session. I really enjoyed it. Practice for me is so many things and I generally don't have a problem doing it. A key part is that I treat it as part mindful meditation - relaxed but focused.
