Today I was installing the gear for next week videos production and I'm trying out a different mix of microphones and positions. Here's my take on Sanz's Pavana while testing out the sound, sorry for missed notes and chords, I would have needed a bit more practice 😓.

Blaise Laflamme Great, great and great! As said Jack, in all respects - playing, tone, interpretation and production. In my opinion, the miking was perfect, the sound is really clear and pleasant. Great job!

Blaise Laflamme I closed my eyes and could picture the dance in an old castle. So so beautiful. Thank you

Steve Pederson thank you Steve for the kind comments. The capo makes it sound a bit different, more like a lute or vihuela perhaps, but the way you play it is just excellent! In fact I'm about to record an Andrew York piece I intend to use a capo for and while testing out the sound I felt that the Pavana was just sounding great that way and I wanted to post something here before the challenge ends 😅. I'm happy if it brought you another level of satisfaction when you tried the capo yourself! 🙏

Steve Pederson weird thing... your comment is dated from yesterday, after Eric as currently displayed, but I just got notified of it and it was not there before? 🤯

Blaise Laflamme yeah, it was strange. I posted my comment Saturday evening, but it said "pending" after it, which I'd never seen before.

Blaise Laflamme It seems to me this would be appropriate for a version 'I Ain't Got Nobody'😊

    Sor - Minuet Op 22

Hearing Steve play that nice minuet yesterday by Sor made me think of this one. It is perhaps too difficult of a piece for me to tackle in one day, but so be it. I've heard this one many times, of course, but never really played it. It's a fun one!

Eric Phillips That was great and you recorded it before 7:00 am!!!!! (Well maybe before 10am your time  - still, it is before my first cup of coffee). If this is your first read thru, you are amazing.

Jack Stewart Thanks, Jack. I confess I actually recorded it last night. I’m trying to limit myself to one video a day, so I waited to post it. I obviously have problems. I’m in counseling. 🤪

Blaise Laflamme No plans. So much music, so little time! Maybe some time.

Emma Thanks, Emma. Just to set the record straight, I am not sight reading here. This is after maybe about one hour of practice.

Eric Phillips I imagine it is not first sight… but just one hour??? What I meant is that going through so many pieces must improve the sight reading skills. You are doing great!!!! So beautiful!!!

Emma Thanks, Emma. Obviously, I do really enjoy playing a lot of music. What I lack is your focus on one, more challenging piece. I have tried Cadiz a few times, and I found it too difficult. I could not make the rhythm sound the way it needs to sound.

Eric Phillips sooo nice Eric!!! I was playing that in my young years...you play it very nice....and only one hour! you are incredible quick to learn a piece. Of course I have forgotten it...completely...

Here's another piece by Calatayud. This one is a habanera - Caramba!

I think the hardest thing with these pieces is the attitude - need to be a bit mean and moody and mellow at the same time. Perhaps I should record them on a nice warm spring night in southern Spain! (instead of a cold and wet night in rainy Kendal!)

Derek Very nice.  I was not that familiar with Bartolomé Calatayud's music but have really enjoyed the pieces that you have shared with us.  Thanks.

Derek you should have played the guitar standing while dancing sweetly! Great finding and well played!
