  • Sor – Andante Op 44 No 11

For this one, I simply started flipping through my book of Sor studies (ed. Grimes) looking for something I hadn’t played before, but looked interesting and not too difficult to play. This Andante in E minor fits the bill.

I find it interesting how the B section begins in the relative major key, but very quickly (after just two measures) goes back to E minor. It’s like you’re eating a dish of ice cream, then you take a little taste of another flavor from someone else nearby, but then you go right back to what’s in your dish. 🍦🍨

Rodrigo En Los Trigales 1st update

This is much better though there are still some major glitches.Oddly enough the most glaring glitches are in what should be the simplest section. Hopefully I'll have those worked out soon. All in all it feels more secure and a little more 'interpretive'.

    • Jack Stewart bravo, Jack! Great performance. I like your interpretation s o much! You seem to be much more at ease with the different motifs and sections. Very musical. A real pleasure to listen to it.

Blaise Laflamme Thanks Blaise. This recording was much easier than before - of course, that's a pretty low bar considering my previous attempts to record. I'm hoping I can eventually get a good, clean take.

    • Jack Stewart I'm sure without a doubt you'll get one. As a tip I usually record a session where I play, formerly or not, and take a version out of that.

    • Jack Stewart That's so great, Jack! I really admire that you have taken on such big and challenging pieces, and you're playing them so well. The driving rhythmic sections, in particular, are so strong in this piece. I can almost see the farmworkers chugging along out in the hayfields as you play.

Eric Phillips Thanks Eric. Yes. the farmworkers are chugging along until the middle section, then they all get drunk and all fall over. Actually I am pretty happy with how this is coming along. Now I hope to work on De Falla's Homenaje which I find really challenging.

    • Jack Stewart Nicely done.  It is coming along well, just need to smooth out a few rough edges, but otherwise very admirable that you have taken on such a challenging piece. Regarding Manuel de Falla's Homenaje a Debussy, I can't wait to hear you.  It is one of my favorite pieces and I agree that to play it well is quite challenging.  There is so much packed into that short piece.

    • Jack Stewart congratulations Jack! you are feeling and playing "Trigales" better and better. I think I will put "Homenaje a Debussy" before Piazzolla in my priority list.... the version of "Veraño porteño! " I'd like to play is (Baltasar Benitez) to to to to  to much difficult for me right now...being ALL difficult...
