Baroque Ornamentation – A Practical Introduction

Dear guitarists,

This livestream, I'd like to explore with you the art of adding notes where there are non written. Aka, the art of ornamentation. When to use it, when not to use it. How many kinds of ornamentation are there? Is it really OK to change the score? Why bother with ornamentation at all? These questions and more will be tackled, while also addressing your requests for advice on specific Baroque pieces you may be working on.

See you there!

Emmanuel

Baroque scores are often compared to jazz lead sheets, containing only essential information to be shaped by the performer. Expression is interpreted where it is not indicated. Notes are added where none are written. Most importantly, these are practices Baroque composers fully expected from performers.

Join Emmanuel Sowicz in this livestream where he invites you to discover the art of ornamentation to enrich your performances of Baroque music. There will be examples by Vivaldi, Scarlatti, and Bach. Additionally, Emmanuel will address requests to look at some of the Baroque pieces you are currently working on.
