Isaac Bustos: How to Stop Overpressing With Your Left-Hand (Jan 14) Questions / Suggestions

Alright folks, I'm so excited about this and all the other cool livestreams we have planned for the new year! 😀

Prof. Issac Bustos, head of the guitar department at UTSA in San Antonio, Texas, will be joining us to talk about particularly important aspects of left-hand technique!

He will share with us some exercises that help with over pressing and weight transfer, while also talking to us on a more general level about his broader guitar philosophy.

We are going to be using this thread to gather suggestions about things he might want to touch on, and offer you a chance to ask him your own questions!

  • What questions do you have for him?
  • Any particular area you would like him to focus on?

Forum questions will be answered first!

  • Dear Prof. Bustos, in La Catedral-III movement (A. Barrios), measure 31 to 44 (file attached), I find that the part of my palm that is linking to the two left-hand (LH) finger number 4 and 3 are most sored after practicing those measures, because of doing a lot of independence movement of finger 4 and 3 while finger 1 is doing barre' or half barre'. And there are still some buzz if I am not pressing extra hard. Recently, it improves a bit because I try to reposition my LH thumb, and use the whole palm to pull the fret towards my shoulder. I have not completely found a fix for these difficult measures yet. Could you please advise on how to approach to practice this type of difficult measures? Thank you so much. Those measures are attached.

Unfortunately, I was unable to participate in the stream on January 14th. After watching the video, I regret it a lot - I would have some questions :-). Maybe next time.
