Vilio Celli Great! Feel free to post more of your updates in the WEEK ONE Updates: Main Thread - Awakening Tárrega's Spirit! The 1st Prelude is definitely a tough one in terms of position shifts, I don't play a lot of the indicated slurs to get more legato!

I like gran vals with its 3/4 time what makes it an advanced piece?

Vilio Celli I have never played it, but looking at it with all its barrées and shifts made it look to me a little bit uncomfortable, but maybe I was wrong to put in the same category as Capricho or Recuerdos! Just try it and let us know what you think!

Good morning Martin. I saw this challenge only last week, so am very late to the discussion - I hope that's ok?
I have enjoyed the terrific performances submitted by other members, but I have a question if you don't mind - how long can someone be learning guitar before finding pieces like Lagrima and Adelita "easy"?
I was learning guitar for almost 2 years when the pandemic stopped my classes (at Grade 4), and I have struggled to commit to improvement on my own this past year.
This Tãrrega challenge has caught my eye as a means to learning progress, but at my level, I find very little that is easy with these pieces. In fact, if it were not for Thomas Voliteau's excellent presentation on Tonebase on how to approach learning Lágrima, I doubt I would even have tried.
Is this to be expected for beginner / novice musicians, or should I be playing the tambourine, or tic-tac-toe instead!
In all seriousness though, i know everyone may eventually find the limits of their ability. Do you think that difficulty with pieces such as Lágrima in the early years of learning to play, gives clues that my limits might be closer than I had hoped?

Colin O'Regan Oh absolutely, "easy" is a very relative term! Learning guitar is a life long process and you will always discover new aspects that will challenge you! It's the change of small habits over a long period of time that will make you progress!
Have you included slurs into your daily practice? If not, then your hand will be in for a surprise after continuous slur practice for 1-2 months! You practice 30min a day? Try 45 and be consistent about it! Track your practice sessions in a practice sheet and and be focused! Wanna get better at arpeggios? Make sure that you include 15-20min of Brouwer Estudios 6 or Villa-Lobos 1 in your session, make it visible in your practice sheet! Learning guitar or any instrument for that matter is not a mystery nor filled with secrets, it's passion, dedication and time, trust the process!
I recommend "Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise" by Anders Ericsson, it's a very inspiring read about Learning! You will find that the biggest limits we have are those we set for ourselves!
By the way, until this day there are details about Lágrima which I don't find easy!

Martin Thank you so much Martin for the encouragement and suggestions. I've completed a 7-day effort at Lagrima on the basis of Thomas's 1 week lesson course (although to ape a line from the movies, I'm gonna need a bigger week!!), and submitted a video on the Week 3 forum discussion thread. I don't know if it's too late for inclusion in the Watch party (probably better for all if it is!!), but I'll be tuning in either way. Thank you again for the help. Colin
