16 Methodological tools for solving any passage

Hi, group!

Almost a year ago I started writing a small "booklet" compiling the most effective tools I use and teach my students to use for solving methodologically any passage's difficulty either technical or musical. These are tools that many of us use most of the time but I never saw them all together systematically explained. The pdf was first distributed in spanish with great feedback from all over and I have now translated it into english and share it with you.

The text is Creative Commons License. I'm not in the bussiness of monetizing my materials. I prefer to share with everybody, but if you think it is useful and want to contribute to the cause I won't get mad about it. Just let me know. You are free to use this as you see fit, share it with whom ever you think may profit from it and teach from it, if you think it is adaptable to your teaching process.

I have posted some videos in my Facebook and Instagram pages (in spanish) about the uses and reasons behind each tool and you are welcome to look for them. I´ll probably also upload them to Youtube in a while with subs.

I hope you'll enjoy them. Feedback is very welcomed!!

Hi  and ! you are very welcomed. This booklet is very much in line with the videos recorded by Ashley Lucero for Tonebase (which I agree 100% with and which i think are some of the most profitable videos of the site). I gathered these tools by watching my parents teach violin and piano and developed them by trial and error through difficult times in my study and by learning alongside of my students.

Nowadays I can say I garantee excelent results in two different ways: the playing will get much better without doubt, but also the amount of conciousness required for the use of these tools will bring up lots of things we may change to fix problems with the mechanics of playing and with our understanding and approach to musical performance.

Let me know, please, how it works for you.

los videos de Lucero son esos referidos a ejercicios para profundizar en la relajación y la percepción de la mano izquierda

    Hello Ariel,

I enjoy watching videos explaining learning techniques but to have a written reference to learning techniques is a very valuable tool. So thank you for this booklet.

    Cheers

    Michelle

Hi to the three of you! Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I expect these tools will give you great results, sometimes even after only 3 minutes or less of practice (for example n°10, the preassure game for chords). The important thing is to approach these as a way of getting to know better .... the piece, the hands, the mechanics and technical stuff, our body, the interpretation, the performance et all involved in playing. That's why I don't like traditional methods like Carlevaro and others, mostly. The excercises don't imply the method. In this booklet the intention is the other way round. The method is the starting point and can be applied to everything. One of the most important and useful capabilities, I have found, is the possibility to extrapolate. And you are welcomed to extrapolate as much as you can immagine from this tools and apply them as it suits your desire of playing.

sure thing, Ron... I love to help if possible... such a difficult world to live in, if we can make it a little better by enjoying more playing the guitar and making music, I say let's go for it.

Very interesting tools Ariel, thanks for sharing! I think your booklet would benefit of having both score and video excerpts to help understanding the mechanics, Ideally simple examples taken from well-known works by Carcassi, Sor and Tarrega would also help in bringing in people of different levels. Good work! 💪

Hi, Blaise! Thanks... I've been publishing the videos on social platforms. I covered the 16 tools with a series of 19 videos. I'll be recording examples in a new series which i'll post (hopefully with subs already) with pieces proposed by my followers and I'll share them here too. But it's a nice idea to attach some links to the pdf file. I didn't commit to the idea of scores in the pdf because i wanted it to be more of an abstract construct. And also because I feel that just pointing a use is reductive. Maybe i'm wrong... I think the words explain the tools quite right but if there's ammendmends I can make to clarify, I'm open to that, of course... I'm not native english speaker so I'm bound to make mistakes in communication. That's also another reason I'm posting this. I'm trusting that if there's something that is not quite clear, some of you will make me notice it!
