Brandon Acker Live Stream (Nov 24) Questions / Suggestions

My friends, it's actually happening! 😁 So excited about this!

The amazing Brandon Acker - guitarist, early music specialist, multi-instrumentalist, and YouTube sensation - will be joining us for a workshop!

He will be taking us on a wonderful journey, introducing us to several early instruments (renaissance guitar, renaissance lute, baroque guitar, theorbo and perhaps more), and answering our questions.

We are going to be using this thread to gather suggestions about things he might want to touch on, and offer you a chance to ask him your own questions!

  • What questions do you have for him?
  • Any particular area you would like him to focus on?

Forum questions will be answered first!

We will touch on his own adventure from classical guitar into early plucked instruments, playing from tablature and figured bass, improvisation, ornamentation and more! If you don't know him, check out his wonderful work on his YouTube channel!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the live session, but I'll certainly watch the archived event. I do have a couple of questions for Brandon though. First, since he plays both modern and historical instruments, I am interested to know he handles the various right hand positions/techniques which the different instruments demand. Does he have a 'one-size-fits-all' solution, or does he employ a variety of approaches?  Second, I would be interested to hear his opinion on the particular technical challenges of the various instruments. Are some more 'difficult' than others. And which is most compatible with the modern guitar? Finally, does he have a favourite instrument or repertoire? (What if he had to devote himself to one instrument only?) Sorry - that's a lot of questions! No need to pass them all on. Thanks!
