Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Etude #5 is a compositional masterpiece, at least in the eyes of Ashley Lucero, your host for this performers’ analysis livestream! Etude 5 is a clever combination of tried and true compositional techniques paired with Villa-Lobos’ ability to conjure musical worlds out of impressively simple textures and straightforward materials. In this livestream, we will do a structural analysis along with harmonic and motivic analyses to aid your learning and performing this quintessential study. Technical, musical, and analytical foundations are useful in accomplishing all that Heitor intended as he wrote his infamous 12 Etudes.
