Blaise's Practice Diary - Sor's Gran Solo Op. 14

I've been looking to learn and play this work for so many years... let's see how it goes over the next weeks. I read through it in the past, across multiple versions, and finally opted for a non-published one, based on Paolo Paolini's revision published by Recordi, and also revised by Alvaro Pierri in the early 90's.

Oh man, what a great piece, Blaise! I'll be honest, I would have expected you to choose a more contemporary piece. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. I love Sor, and I know you will play this beautifully!

  Eric Phillips another one I have on my list of upcoming piece I want to work on next, while not being as modern as Koshkin, is the Saudade #3 by Roland Dyens... I could try to work on both and figure out which one is more ready by then?

Wow, this is my favorite Sor piece. This and Op. 9 are on my list of future dream pieces to play (after many additional years of practice). Looking forward to seeing the progress on this.

Blaise Laflamme wonderful, looking forward to your approach of that magnum opus! I've played it in the past, but never went through it with my professors. I did work through the Grand Ouverture by Giuliani with my teacher, so maybe I could transfer some ideas into the Gran Solo and have a go at it again ... sometime 😬

  Martin Same for me, I've only read through it a few times long time ago but my friend learned it while I was learning Giuliani's Rossiniana #1, so most of the version is based on that 😵

  Blaise Laflamme Oh fantastic! Rossiniana was always difficult for me, I always struggled to make it sound cohesive and not like a gazillion pieces roughly thrown together 😅

  David Krupka you're right, during that period he was teaching in Montreal, near where I live, but now I think he's in Vienna. As you said I was fortunate enough to have studied with him and it has definitely changed and shaped the musician I am today. it was a privilege to be his student and I hope to have the chance to meet him again.
