Like the picture says, I’m very sorry I can’t finish this challenge.

One of my sons moves to Berlin (from the Netherlands)  to work there for 3 years and I’m helping him to move there. So hi from Berlin, without my guitar, couldn’t bring it with me :(. I’ll keep practicing the Allemande 😇 Thanks for all your very nice and helpful feedback and enjoy playing your pieces! 🎶

Hedda Koning Good luck with the moving, Hedda!  Please be careful during that process to not hurt yourself ( and your guitar playing fingers, arms, nails, etc...).  Keep up your good guitar work when you return, and see you later on Tonebase.

Hedda Koning Hi Hedda, just happened to notice about Berlin - I live here and there just happens to be a guitar festival happening this weekend:

    BWV 996 Courante complete

This has been an extended exercise in frustration and humility. This is my best recording to date. It has parts that I am happy with, and proud of, however, overall I don't like it. It is overly harsh in tone and I get lost in the rhythm. It will take me quite a while to really get a grip on this piece.

Also, I continue to have frustrating issues with my fingernails - sorry for the continual rant. I had to put on new fingernails 12 times over the last 24 hours - each finger 4 times.

If I can get a good version of this I will post it in the Practice Diary.

    • Jack Stewart Jack, you are too hard on yourself.  I like what you are doing with this piece.  Your ornamentation is impressive and you are so close. Just needs a little more time to open up like a good wine.

Dale NeedlesThanks Dale. Maybe I need the good wine to open up.

I'll probably take a couple of days off but I do think I can get it reasonably soon - I'm just pretty frustrated now.

    • Jack Stewart This has more than just a few good moments. It is very high level playing, with a few incredibly beautiful moments. Yes, there are mistakes, which I am certain you can sort out in time, but my overall impression is that I loved it.

Eric Phillips Thanks, Eric. This piece is really challenging for me, though I do feel it is getting within my grasp. I will probably set it aside for a couple of days because I was getting really frustrated trying to record it.

If you get a chance, listen to Marcin Dylla's recording of this. That is my model for interpretation. On that note, I am going to the GFA Convention in June and might be able to have a lesson with Dylla. I'll find out in May.

    • Jack Stewart I have heard Dylla play it, and it is amazing. The way he changes the repeats with what seems like improvised material is pretty mind-blowing. How great it would be to get a lesson from him, so I hope that happens.

Jack Stewart Hey, Jack! As Dale said, don't be so hard on yourself! This is a complex piece, it needs many months to get finished, at least in my case, if I were to study something like this. You're in a good way. Get a good Porto bottle and be happy! 😉

    BWV 996 Allemande

Ok. I think this is a good version of the Allemande. A few glitches but mostly it holds together well. Now if I can get a Courante to match I'll be happy.

Jack Stewart wow, the music looks difficult but your playing was beautiful, Jack! I like how you play the cross-string trills, especially the one at the end of the piece, trill + a little delay of the last note, really captured the essence of baroque music!

    • Jack Stewart That was sublime, Jack! The beauty of Bach is coming through your hands and instrument so clearly. Thank you for posting both of these!

Wai Thanks, Wai. I feel I am finally getting a grip on the trills - at least about 75% of the time.

Eric Phillips Thanks, Eric. I find Bach works beautifully on guitar. This particular movement is one that I feel I have finally absorbed (mistakes not withstanding - they are a part of my recording obligation)

Hello, friends! My update on my studies of the "Invierno Porteño", it is difficult for me to improve it in a short time, but, it is what I have for now... As joosje  said, it is not easy to play expressively with many competing lines, but it is a nice challenge... I recorded with an old AKG C411 mic and so, no tile reverb! 😄

I still have not listened to all your beautiful recordings but I would like to thank you for your kindness to share your playing. Tonebase Community Challenges are my preferred playground! 😍

Jack Stewart Eric Phillips Dale Needles You are really gentle, guys! In fact, the second page of Invierno is a bit challenging for me, for sure I need more time but I was really pleased to share the process. Thank you for listening! 😉
