Welcome to the Main Thread for the first week of "Monsters of Nylon" practice challenge!
Select a "Monster of Nylon" or a piece that you have been trying to solve for a longer period of time. The choice is yours!
Commit to regular practice and share your progress with the community. Strive to practice daily and upload at least two videos per week to showcase your musical voyage. This not only keeps you motivated but also allows you to share your artistic journey with our tonebase family.

I am late to the challenge but as they say, better late than never. I am currently working on Sor Opus 6 No. 11 for one week. I don't know if it's considered a Monster but it is for me because I've never played it before and I find some sections to be big in the left hand. I love this rendition by Petrit Ceku.

Debbie This is a great performance! I have been training this piece for some 3 months now, and still feels like a challenge. I like very much Vera Danilina's rendition, but Ceku's slightly slower tempo makes it more lyrical.

As I previously posted, I am working this month on the first movement from Abel Carlevaro's Cronomias (sonata para guitar in three movements). The first movement is subtitled "Poco Libero (a little freely). One challenge in playing this movement is that Carlevaro changes the tempo and time signature several times throughout the movement. Here is the A Section from the first movement.

Dale Needles What a great start, Dale. It is sounding really good so far. Keep those posting coming!
As to our Spain trip; we didn’t get to experience much of Madrid. Including jet lag ( I didn’t sleep at all on the plane) Air Canada also didn’t transfer my bag in Toronto and it took 2 days to get it. We did go to the Prado and Reina Sofia but we didn’t get to the Thyssen -B museum. I also didn’t make it to the guitar place you mentioned. More time in Madrid will have to be included on our next trip. Granada was great and Ronda was stunning ( though once was probably enough there). We are in Seville now and so far it is very much my favorite place so far. We are going to a flamenco performance tonight. A couple more nights and then to France to meet up with our daughter.

Dale Needles bravo Dale. What a good way to begin this challenge. I can hear you have the feel for this music. I checked the bibliotheca website. So intriguing, very Carlevaro , but what a difficult piece. Looking forward to hearing your interpretation and progress.

Marilyn Blodget joosje Ron Wai don Jack Stewart Thanks for all your support. I was always a bit intimidated by this piece (and surely it gets very difficult in the second and third movements) but I have been pretty pleased with progress thus far after only a couple of weeks of practicing and feel over time, I may be able to play all three movements. In any case, I am confident I will be able to play the first movement by the end of this challenge. Jack, glad your trip is going well, and you are enjoying Spain.
