Derek Tango final by Piazzolla arranged Gary Ryan

This is another piece I started some time ago and put to one side.

The piece is in 3 sections an ABA format but my main problem is that the closing A section is quite a bit different to the first A section and I get a bit confused when trying to memorise it. Over the last few weeks I've worked on memorising the first two sections before working on the last section. It seems to have worked as I started on the last section yesterday and can still play the first! I'll work on the last section for a few more days and hopefully bring it all together. At the end of the practice session I play from the start to as far as I can get.

Derek Awesome, excited for that! I have played embarrassingly few pieces (close to none) by Piazzolla, we should host a Piazzolla Challenge one day to make me tango a bit more!

Martin hi Martin. I love the music of Piazzolla but most of the arrangements seem pretty difficult. This one is from a set of 13 tangos arranged by Gary Ryan who was/is Professor of Guitar at the Royal College. It says the pieces have been skillfully arranged so they can be easily enjoyed by younger players! Unfortunately I need an arrangement that can be enjoyed by older players:-).

This piece is currently in our ABRSM grade 7 syllabus. There are some 'easier' pieces in the grade 5 and 6 syllabus.

Derek Two of the Piazzolla pieces arranged by Baltazar Benites (published by Chanterelle) are quite approachable. I'm thinking of 'Verano Porteno' and 'Milonga del Angel'. They are no more difficult than Mertz' setting of 'Lob der Tranen' - and they're certainly not intended for the exclusive enjoyment of 'young' players!
