  • I would like to know about the use of the interosseal muscles of the right hand in order to actually make the stroke of the string. Master Ricardo Gallén talks about this and how this conscious training would help tremolo and other techniques. Thank you.

      Thanks for your question!

      To be honest, I'm not an anatomy expert, and Maestro Gallén would definitely be the right person to dive deep into this topic.

      From my perspective, I've never consciously thought about the interosseous muscles, but I always make sure that the movement of my fingers originates from the big knuckle,  and not from the middle joint. This applies to every movement—rest strokefree stroke, and tremolo alike.

      One thing that I believe is healthy for the right hand is to practice rasgueados and scales by plucking the string in the opposite direction—outwards rather than inwards.
      Since we usually repeat the same inward motion (toward the palm), the extensor muscles of the fingers often remain underdeveloped.

      This concept also relates to yoga: one of its core principles is that if you stretch in one direction, you should also stretch in the opposite direction to maintain balance.

      Ema Thanks Ema!  In other words, any hand/finger exercise that will use the extensor muscles.  Yes, and for the same reason that practicing Rasgueados helps scales,  it enables a quicker return of the finger for the next stroke in Tremolo, right?
