Week 4: Play us out 🎉

Barney This is a really good 'read thru', Barney. I realize this is probably not actually a read thru but still very early in the learning process. Your command of this piece is very good at this point. Your tone is always inspiring.

I saw this TB Track and intend to use it to try (yet again) to work on this piece. Your posting is inspiring me to take it up after this challenge (I am scrambling to get a posting down before the end).

Jack Stewart Thanks Jack!  You always do an excellent job on the Bach pieces.  Do you have a reliable way to memorize these pieces with all their complexities?

Barney Well done Barney.  The piece is flowing nicely and is quite enjoyable in this recording.  Hope you will post again once you work on it some more.

Barney That's excellent. Really well played, and it already has such a flowing feel. I agree with Jack that the sound is really good. I still haven't messed with the tracks yet, so I'll have to check them out. 

Steve Price Thanks Steve!  I watched the lesson Track for this piece, which suggested easier fingerings.  However, I used different fingerings which I feel creates a better flow of certain lines and sound.

Barney Nicely done. Such a great piece and you are well on the way to mastering it. CARLEVARO has a nice edition of the Prelude, Fugue and Allegro. You might want to check it out for some fingering ideas.

Steve Price This is fascinating, Steve. Very different from other works I know of Brouwer (aside from an occasional Brouwer phrase like the opening figure).. This piece seems deceptively difficult to me. Its atmospheric its harmonic and melodic complexities.

Jack Stewart Thanks a lot, Jack. Brouwer's has been writing more and more difficult music as time goes on, so I was happy to find something relatively new that I thought was within my range, but you're right in that it's deceptively difficult. The mix of ringing open strings, harmonics, odd chord shapes, and lack of concern for human physiology made this tough, but really enjoyable.

Interestingly, you and Blaise were talking about Knobloch strings earlier, and Brouwer has a long history with the company. This piece is dedicated to the company, which is something I haven't seen before.

Blaise Laflamme Thanks a lot, Blaise. I've never actually used Knoblochs, but I thought about giving the Brouwer set a try. Hopefully, I don't like them TOO much since they run around $27 usd. I was looking through their website, and Knobloch have some really interesting lines. I like how they have a lot of options other than just high-tension sets. I'm always looking for a set that works with my instruments that aren't very high-end. Are you not a fan of carbons or do they just not work for your guitars?
