Arturo Castro Nogueras: Beyond Brouwer - Contemporary Classical Guitar Music in the Caribbean!

Going Beyond Brouwer!

Do you like Leo Brouwer’s music and Caribbean vibe? The region where he comes from is a rich cultural melting pot of African, European, Asian, and indigenous traditions and music, and Leo Brouwer, although being the most famous representative, is not the only one!

Discover other distinguished and lesser-known Caribbean composers with Puerto Rican / Cuban/Mexican guitarist Arturo Castro Nogueras. Since the time he was a student in Puerto Rico and Germany (with Maestro Joaquín Clerch), Arturo has worked extensively promoting this amazing music all over Europe, Africa, and The Americas in traditional venues like the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, Germany or Pablo Casals Hall in Puerto Rico to Roman Amphitheaters and 9th-century churches in the Balkans.

Wanna listen to something?

Let me add some beautiful music I recorded with Arturo a while back!

  • Are 1. Con Pasion, 2. Expresivo casi religioso, 3. Scherzando, and 4. Salseado all part of the same suite?  If so, what is it, and who is the composer?

    • Paul Kennedy I believe that's Roberto Sierra's Sonata para Guitarra. It won a Latin Grammy for best contemporary classical composition in 2021 so it's nice to see guitar getting some love. Great piece.
