Jaxon Williams: The Fandango and the Spanish Guitar

My friends, it is such a pleasure to introduce my colleague and great friend Jaxon Williams to tonebase Live! He will be talking to us about a topic near and dear to his heart - the Fandango in the context of the Spanish guitar!

Last year, Jaxon, a few friends, and I founded a weeklong online guitar festival called GuitarLAb. The second edition (July 12th - 18th) is now approaching! Among others, I will also be returning as a teacher. This year's organizers have agreed to extend the application deadline by 48h for tonebase subscribers only. If you are catching this stream live, you still have time to register.

Visit guitarlab.us for more information.

The fandango is a term that almost all classical guitarists will inevitably encounter, but tracing its meaning, characteristics, and roots is not so easy! This livestream will discuss the origins of the Fandango, its main characteristics, its role and evolution in classical and flamenco music, and will detail examples from quintessential fandangos of the guitar repertoire, including Flamenco Fandangos de Huelva and classical Fandangos by Murcia, Boccherini, Aguado, and of course Rodrigo.

  • Thank you Jaxon, I did not get a chance to watch live, but have just watched and enjoyed the session very much .. it was very informative and inspiring to interpretation of some classical pieces ... I am wondering if you will do a lesson on possible influence of fandango on Calatayud and his Fandanguillo ..?
