Milonga, Jorge Cardoso

Ok, so I've been slacking off on the guitar lately - a combination of being busy with work, and not currently having any exam or performance to work towards. So trying to get something ready for Dec 4th is a good motivator.

A few months ago I could play this reasonably well, but it's got very rusty. This video is just the first 30 seconds or so, the arpeggio section. Hopefully over the next month it'll get better, and the other sections will get added in.

don There's a useful lesson on it with Stephanie Jones on here - that's where I found it.

Roddy Thank you, Roddy! That's a very stable left hand you have there!

Martin Yes, I put it in the wrong place and it never moves from there ;-)

Thanks, will try and post a little more of it soon. I'm in that frustrating period where I've gone a bit backwards, and feel like I'm crawling out of a pit rather than making new progress.

Roddy Oh, I feel you! Sometimes I'd like to lock myself up in a cabin in the forest (maybe not in the time around Halloween though) and simply relax and practice for two weeks! I guess my student's and my girl (well, she's practicing piano like crazy as well) would miss me 😂

Time for Episode 2. Here we're linking together the first part which you heard yesterday, with the second section. I like the second section, as you can really knock those basses about.

I'm suffering from an old affliction - spending ages trying to get a decent take, and no time working on why the takes aren't decent. Not the most constructive use of my time.

Right, now to diagnose that high-pitched sound that's leaking in from somewhere...

Today spent some time reminding myself how to connect the position / chord changes in the first section - it's not THAT hard a section, but there are a lot of opportunities to create string noise or put a finger down inaccurately, and I can see on the videos I'm bending the strings way more than I should. I then restricted myself to no more than 10 minutes of trying to get a good take.

Roddy Oh, that was a very wise decision, we tend to fall so easily into the rabbit hole of perfection!

    • Roddy good work and sound, chord shifting is not always easy and we tend to press more than we should when staying longer on them. I don't know if I'm the only one but the sound was phasing weird around 00:16 😵

  • I am inspired with your milonga Roddy, maybe I will play also one milonga of Atahualpa Yupanqui.

Let´s see if I can begin today a practice dairy. My nails are broken (im), what makes my life more difficult with the guitar....but anyway....(for the tremolo fatal !)
