Jan Depreter: Decyphering Julian Bream
On a day that spells “falling in love” like no other, We invite prominent Belgian guitar virtuoso Jan Depreter to shed some light on the why, when and how he made the Spanish guitar his lifelong partner.
In this livestream episode we explore three arrangements of three different Spanish composers, Joaquin Malats, Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados, made by one of the greatest champions of the guitar of all time, Julian Bream.
Depreter’s recorded tribute to the man from Battersea “Dedication”, featuring music written by Berkeley, Britten, Walton, Davis and Takemitsu, was released in 2018, just in time for Bream’s 85th birthday. A recording Julian himself called “fascinating”.
But now Jan Depreter allows you an exclusive look inside a selection of carefully guarded secrets and never before disclosed arrangements for the Spanish guitar that upon his death last summer, made Julian Bream pass into the halls of legend.
