Kick-Off for "Around the 19th Century Guitar World!"

This Week: Paris in the 19th Century - Sor, Carcassi, Carulli, Coste

When Fernando Sor carried the tradition of classical guitar out of Spain during the Napoleonic wars, Paris was a hub for classical guitar composition, performance, and innovation. We will be looking at music by the classical virtuosos Carulli and Carcassi as well as the prolific late romantic composer Napoleon Coste.

Eric Phillips I see you're rubbing it in Eric.🤨Curse you dreaded Romantics! 😠 ( I actually have a lot of pieces to choose from - but I have to maintain my reputation. 🙄)

Jack Stewart please treat us with a few of your choice. I don’t give much about reputations anyway.

joosje Not to worry, Joosje. Eric and Blaise enjoy taunting me mercilessly😪 because I have mentioned that the Romantic period is my least favorite musical period. Actually I very much like the shorter 'character' pieces such as Chopin's Mazurkas and waltzes (🤫). But I tend not to care for the larger works.
