General Live Stream Suggestions! (Megathread)

Hi everyone-

This is Mircea, head of live content at tonebase!

Let's use this thread as a place for any general live stream suggestions you might have that don't warrant an entirely new thread.

Examples may include:

  • topics we should cover in future live streams
  • new live stream format ideas
  • people we should try to bring on as guests
  • anything else you would like to see on tonebase LIVE!

If you'd rather start a new thread for an individual person or topic suggestion, feel free to do that too!

We will use this thread as a place to centralize suggestions, but feel free to suggested these in individual threads, if you prefer.

Happy posting!

  • I would also vote for a Torroba challenge. There are not too many true beginner pieces by him, but a good amount of intermediate material.

I think two other good ones would be Mertz and Brouwer.

Eric Phillips Another would be Albeniz - lots of amazing pieces that should be part of "standard" repertoire.

    • Barney I agree, but not too many (any?) pieces that aren't pretty difficult. That's the great thing about Sor and Tarrega - guitarists of every level have lots to choose from.

    • Eric Phillips Barney nice. I will second Torroba. Also Brouwer, of course. My doubts about Albeniz,: short time span for these masterpieces. They are no short pieces. Will be only for the most advanced among us. I, at least, would not participate, because I need time for my own program. But, I will certainly follow and encourage you if you go for it….

Didn’t anyone ever mention Dowland? Great variety in length and level.

    • joosje Dowland would be great! I used to play a lot more Renaissance music and getting back to it could be fun. I also love the Spanish vihuela music.

I know this is a "safe" choice, but just doing Carcassi's Op 60 would be a good challenge. Even those who have played many of them probably haven't played them all. It would be similar to when we did Sor's Op 35.

Just want to compliment you all for the great upgrades to the livestream presentations. The effects and the overlay text is such a great addition to help focus the discussion and organize the material.    Also the site layout improvements are also an improvement to navigation as well.  Keep up the good work!

Hello guys, so during last hangout I proposed two ideas:

    1. The folkloric challenge: with this one I presented the idea of challenging us to play folklorical music from our home countries, but since not everyone might get too much resources depending of where they come, I though of dedicating several weeks to the music of different countries (one country per week perhaps, with its dedicated livestream). With that there could be done several challenges.
    2. Doing videos for a Virtual Guitar Orchestra with us, the Tonebase users.

Let me hear your impressions about this or if you have something to add to it! 😀

Daniel Beltrán These are awesome suggestions! I really love the first one and haven't thought of something like that, that's a wonderful idea!

The second one is actually already on my list, be patient! 🥳

    • Martin let’s get Mircea’s attention on this one.  The pieces are challenging.  For one thing, for those of us who grew up with these songs, playing them with his tonality and rhythm is a challenge.  Plus, since he was not a guitarist, making choices on what to omit or change is a challenge.  Checking you tube, the variations by different players are interesting.

  • Hi Mircea,

I will love to see lesson/livestream/composer/performer talk about putting our compositions on paper (score) starting from basic to perfecting your score for a performer. Putting your ideas on paper both developing & finished.

I have this one composition titled "Nocturne for Chopin" and I have 2 versions of it. I was lucky!! I received help from a pianist from Italy & a Music Teacher/Pianist from Germany who was in Mumbai back in 2015 i guess. I would have never been able to put this piece on paper without their help.

I really want to learn this craft.

    Thanks

    Nipun

Nipun Deshpande Hi Nipun, thank you for that great idea! We've had a "Composition Challenge" with Ashley (Ash) Lucero a while back maybe you will find some inspiration there while we cook up something new!

Brooke Great idea, I had my ups and downs with competition, but it's a great topic for a guest interview! We will have a workshop on "Mental Training" that might be associated with that topic, but that'll happen end of October!
