Estaciones Porteños: The Piazzolla Arrangement You've Never Heard!

Did you know esteemed pedagogue Abel Carlevaro had an equally skillful sibling named Agustín? If not, then you probably didn't know about the lesser remembered brother's arrangement of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla's Estaciones Porteños, a truly mastermind work of art that displays Agustín's genius as both a guitarist and an architect. Join your host Ashley Lucero as she compares recordings of both and discusses the compositional and performative prowess of Agustín Carlevaro.

  • Ashley (Ash) Lucero So glad you are doing this workshop. I so wish I could attend, but unfortunately, I have a prior commitment. I knew Agustin well and visited him many times in his home in Montevideo. I was also his US agent and represented him in the US publication of one Piazzolla's greatest works, Adios Nonino, by Guitar Solo Publications in 1985. I also have many of Agustin's arrangements of Piazzolla's works as well as other Tango composers. Ashley, please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to learn more about Agustin and his other arrangements. You can reach me directly at [email protected]

  • Martin Ashley (Ash) Lucero Just wondering since few folks have signed up, if this live stream could be moved to another day or time.  I would really like to attend the live workshop but have another commitment.  I think I could provide some context and background on Agustin to Ashley's always great and insightful presentations and analysis since I knew Agustin pretty well.

Dale Needles Hi Dale, unfortunately, we plan our live streams a few weeks in advance which makes it impossible to reschedule on short notice. Feel free to reach out to Ashley (Ash) Lucero directly if you have additional insights you want to have shared in the live stream or add them here in the forum after the event took place!

  • This was very interesting  and I have enjoyed the way you have compared and analized the bandoneon original version and the "simplified" transcription for guitar of Agustín Carlevaro. Thank you Ashley Lucero! 👍
