Interactive Masterclass with Martin Zimny!

I am EXTREMELY excited to do my next interactive masterclass with THE GREATEST HUMAN BEINGS ON EARTH - Yes, that's YOU!  It is so wonderful to directly interact with all of you and share this wonderful learning experience together with you!

You know the drill, we have four spots for roughly 10-20min of teaching and hanging out with each other in way that everybody can learn from each other! This time, we are going to do it like a masterclass with our guests, meaning that we record this class!

I have 4 spots á 15min, sign up now and don't forget to attach scores prior to the class!

Participants

Olli
BWV 998 Prelude

Jack Stewart
BWV 996 Allemande or BWV 1002 Tempo die Borea/Double

David Chidsey

BWV 1004 Chaconne - D-Major Part

Derek

sarabande or bouree from BWV996 / De Visee

This will be an interactive Livestream, so let me attach all the info needed for this exciting new tonebase LIVE format!

What do I need?

  1. We are going to use ZOOM for the interactive part of Livestream (the same piece of software that we have been using for the Virtual Hangouts). While it is not necessary to download the software, I would recommend it as it runs more stable as the browser version. In order to have the best audio quality, you can activate the option to
  2. Preserve Original Sound, here you find the documentation on how to activate that.
  3. It's best to prepare for that lesson to get the most out of it in the interactive part! So listen to some of our fantastic release on

How does this take place?

  1. Simply watch the Livestream at the time indicated in the Live Calender!
  2. I will share the link to the Zoom Call only to the participants.
  3. The guests will be invited one after another to the call.
  4. The Viewers simply remain on the regular page to watch the livestream.

Hey Martin, I would like to participate in your Masterclass, however I was in your last Masterclass - so maybe I should be consided an alternative.

I would present a Bach piece - perhaps BWV 996 Allemande, or Prelude (in my dreams), or the BWV 1002 Tempo di Borea / Double. Depending on where I am with these.

Martin Hey Martin, I will present the BWV 996 Allemande (1st half). I am using the Koonce score which I have uploaded. I also have referred to the Isbin/ Tureck version, which is the version I learned 30+ years ago.

    • Martin I’d play a section of the D minor Chaconne Bach. The D major section (middle) just the first 32 measures

David Chidsey That is great that you are presenting the Chaconne! I had thought about STARTING it for the Bach Challenge but I decided I needed to focus on other pieces first. I like that you are taking it in sections. I am excited to see your progress and will follow your example of breaking it down into sections over time (especially in my case).

Martin Hi Martin. If you would like to make it an all Bach masterclass I will play either the sarabande or bouree from BWV996. If you'd like a different composer then minuet 1 from the De Visee suite in D minor (arr Scheit). I will upload the scores. Thanks Derek

Martin Hi Martin. I will play the Minuet 1 (Suite in D Minor) De Visee in the Karl Scheit transcription. It looks quite simple but I think there are a number of interesting things to consider. In particular in the second section devising a fingering which allows both the upper and lower parts to sound and to separate the first three phrases involved a lot of thought and I have come up with (probably) an unusual solution.

I have attached the Scheit version, a version by Pujol and also a copy of the original tablature. My other concern is that there are additional notes in both transcriptions which are not in the original manuscript - especially in the three phrases which gave me the most thought! If there is time it would be nice to discuss that also.

      Thanks Derek
