Laura Young: Flamenco Infused Technique Workout
Welcome Laura Young!
University professor of the prestigious Mozarteum in Salzburg and internationally acclaimend concert artist talks about Flamenco Infused Technique Workout!
In this workshop you will:
- Expand your right-hand technique exercises to different flamenco based staccato and rasgueado work!
- Learn how to make musical passages easier!
- Implement creative solutions using flamenco-based ideas!
We will look a new and creative solutions to perfecting difficult passages using Flamenco - based ideas. We will be looking at expanding the development of the right hand by exploring rasgueado technique and using different kinds of staccato work and dotted rhythms to improve control and precision in playing. This is to make musical passages easier and to try to find new ways to develop the hands for improved fluidity. Practising to make difficult passages easier generally means understanding how to solve the tiny problems that we often tend to ignore and which are the cause of larger musical problems.

Martin It was such fun class. Got a question on it, if the objective or rather one of the main objective is to train the extensor muscle of the RH.
Want to pick your brain on this. Do you think it might work if I do those exercises on a pillow/bolster instead. Meaning just flick and return on the bolster.
That way I still get to train the muscle, while not damaging the nails and at the same time maintaining peace in the neighborhood.

This seems like such a great idea, but I found it nearly impossible to do these exercises as they were taught so quickly (and I watched the livestream recorded so I could stop and start). For each exercise, I had many questions about the details that were never asked or answered. It seems like the exercises need to be taught individually to each person with individualized coaching to make sure we are doing them correctly. I was very excited to do them, but after about ten minutes of trying and not being able to imitate them, I just stopped the video and came to the conclusion that it's not for me.
