Interactive Masterclass with Mircea Gogoncea

Are you looking for guidance on a speciifc piece or passage? Join me on on my first interactive masterclass. For today's Interactive Masterclass, you can reserve a 15-minute spot!

  1. Bill Young
  2. Jorge
  3. Olli
  4. Dominic
  5. joosje
  6. Jack Stewart

This will be an interactive Livestream. For those of you who haven't taken part in one of these before, allow me to explain the format.

WHAT DO I NEED?

  1. We are going to use ZOOM for the interactive portion of this Livestream. While it is not necessary to download the software, I would recommend that you do, as it is more stable than the browser version. In order to have the best audio quality, you can activate Original Sound option. Click here for help with achieving this.

HOW DOES THIS TAKE PLACE?

  1. Simply watch the Livestream at the time indicated in the Live Calendar.
  2. During the livestream, I will share a ZOOM Link in the chat. Click on that link, and it will take you to our ZOOM meeting.
  3. In the Zoom Call, we will get into greater depth about a piece or passage of your choosing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

I want to be there and watch, but I don't feel comfortable taking part actively and share my audio and video. Can I still participate?

Of course! You can still enter the ZOOM class without audio and video. Though I highly recommend to see this Livestream more as university group lesson and - more importantly - a chance to have a meaningful interaction not only with me but with fellow tonebase users!

I want to participate with audio & video, but I don't like to be recorded.

The interactive class will not be recorded! In order to allow meaningful interaction to happen, we create this safe space, where you can fully immerse into a class. No single moment of the interactive class will be shared outside that virtual room! However, the Livestream prior to the interactive class will be recorded as usual and thus accessible after the Livestream happened.

    Hi Mircea

I would love to participate if there is still availability. I would play Preludio de Adios by Alfonso Montes,

Dominic Hi Dominic! There is still space left - I've added you to the list! I don't have this piece, could you email it to me or have it ready in chat on the day of the masterclass? My email is [email protected]

  • Hello Mircea,

Guess I’m late now, but I will wait for a chance to work the opening walz of Granados valses poeticos. After comparing several transcriptions, I follow mostly Joaquin Clerchs’s edition.

joosje hi Joosje! It's not too late - 6 participants is the limit for this class, so I can still fit you in. I've added you to the list! Looking forward to seeing you on the day.

    Hey Mircea,

I am interested in participating in the masterclass. I would like to present Chopin op.69.2 waltz. I just noticed this so I may be too late for this class. If so, I will still watch and perhaps catch the next one. Thanks.

Jack Stewart hi Jack! I'm sorry, we did reach the 6-participant limit for this one - but I'm excited that you'll still be joining. I'll program another one of these in a few weeks and work with you then! Looking forward to that, too. See you soon!

Mircea Not a problem Mircea. This will give me more time to prepare which is always necessary for me. Looking forward to watching your masterclass as always.

Jack Stewart Jack, I just heard from Eric that he will have to give up his spot - do you still want to take part? If so, I could have you taking his spot at no. 6! Let me know if that works for you.

Mircea That's great! Sure I'll do that. Thanks. I'll present Chopin's op. 69.2 waltz (Richard Yates transcription - score attached). I will also have a video on Martin's Transcription Challenge you can refer to in case I continue my notorious performance presedent.

Mircea Thanks very much for the critique and suggestions in the masterclass. That was very helpful and is having a tremendous impact on my performance of the op 69.2.  I hope your covid experience is brief and mild. Take care.

Jack Stewart Thank you Jack! Glad you found it useful.

And thank you for the well wishes, too! Thanks to the booster shot I got a few months ago, it's been milder than a regular cold - and feels like it's pretty much over after only a few days. Almost didn't feel it! All the best to you and your family too.

not having any idea what people are playing and having no access to the score makes these interactive lessons pointless for those not playing.

Pls consider showing a play list with music scores.

david Hi David, I should have probably clarified that if you pin my video (which I usually spotlight anyway), you can always see me working with the score in the same way as I do during my solo streams. I've also named every piece and composer at the beginning of each session, and showed the first page and specific passage I was working on.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure we'll be able to create a "score playlist" as you say, since people often send their scores in last-minute, as you've seen today. Some of the emails were only sent in after the lesson began. Additionally, we are not legally allowed to distribute scores that are not in the public domain.

Hope you still got some value out of the lessons you watched today.
