Antonio Cano – Exercise #4
Here is a name that I had never heard before this challenge. While looking for Spanish Romantic era guitar music, his name kept coming up, so I decided to check out his music a bit.
Cano (1811-1897) was another student of Aguado and likely gave some lessons to Tárrega. He taught at the Conservatory of Madrid and published a method in 1852. As I was poking around in his method book, playing some of the early exercises, this particular one struck me as something more than just an exercise. It has a sweet, gentle melody that I love.

Eric Phillips Yes I had planned some Sor but we're in the middle of some overrunning building work at the moment which has disrupted practice time. Still, off to Spain next week!

Olli Thanks, Olli. I do not know the film at all. Is this well-known in Germany? The Cano piece does sound like a lullaby, definitely.

Eric Phillips yes, we grew up with the so called "Sandmännchen" At 7PM you can watch this Lullaby-show every night - since 60 years ... or more ! :o)

Gaspar Sanz - Españoleta
After recording the theme of Españoleta, I wanted to practice the whole piece, so I decided to record this piece again.
- Things I found easy: The first half was quite easy actually, but the second half was harder than I thought, I should have got this piece memorized before recording.
- Things I found difficult: Ornamentation was still a challenge to me, besides, the whole piece was full of scale runs which were busier than I thought, and the stretch between low G & high G (using 3 & 4 fingers) was challenging.

Wai I really like that a lot, Wai! Your sound and technique are so clean and pure. I was lost in the music as I listened (and that’s a very good thing). Between you and Blaise, I am falling in love with the music of Sanz!
